Mike Chaple,
PhD
Executive
Director
Michael Chaple was appointed Executive Director of NDRI-USA in July of 2014, assuming
responsibility for strategic planning, finance, and operations.
In his 15 years at NDRI, Michael has accumulated considerable expertise in applied research consisting of efficacy and effectiveness trials, including implementation science, as well as large-scale training and technical assistance initiatives designed to disseminate evidence-based and promising practices. This diverse body of work reflects the growing need to “bridge the gap” between research and practice by developing research studies relevant to emerging issues in the field and by translating findings into practical guidelines for immediate clinical application. His work has been focused on behavioral health issues and co-morbid conditions, including substance abuse, mental illness, HIV/AIDS, with a special focus on criminal justice populations.
Michael received his PhD from Rutgers University and currently holds an Adjunct Faculty position at St. John’s University.

Paul Warren,
LMSW
Deputy Executive
Director
Paul Warren is the Deputy Executive Director for NDRI–USA’s Training Institute. During his
25-year career in public health education, he has provided training and technical assistance as
well as developed and facilitated curricula on a wide range of topics nationally.
Paul is a Licensed Master Social Worker and was previously the Clinical Coordinator of Group Services for people living with HIV/AIDS. He currently manages the On-Line Training Center for the NYS AIDS Institute and is the Training Director for the Northeast & Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network. He has a BFA in Undergraduate Drama from New York University and an MSW specializing in group work from Hunter College School of Social Work.

Mary McCarty-Arias,
MA, CRC
Program Manager
Sr. Staff Trainer
Mary McCarty-Arias, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), brings 25 years of experience
in direct services and as an expert trainer, serving providers nationwide. Her areas of expertise
include HIV, HCV, Substance Abuse, Mental Health and Vocational Rehabilitation. Mary has
trained nationwide, working with partners such as the National Drug Court Institute, the National
Association of Drug Abuse Problems, the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services,
and the U.S. Peace Corps. This work has utilized her vast knowledge and experience to develop
training curriculum that promotes the dissemination of evidence-based practices for application
in clinical settings. Mary has a BA in English Education for the State University of New York at
Albany and a MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from New York University.

Diana Padilla
Program Manager/Senior
Staff Trainer
Diana Padilla brings 18 years of public health experience to her position as a
Program Manager for NDRI-USA’s Training Institute. She manages
the, ‘Cultural Proficiency in Drug Court Practice,’ training drug court practitioners and
substance abuse professionals across the country on how to work effectively with
diverse cultures and enhance the likelihood of successful program outcomes. She is
also a senior trainer and curriculum developer for the Northeast & Caribbean
Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeC-ATTC).
With her background in drug treatment and HIV/AIDS services, Diana trains behavioral health providers, prevention professionals, treatment specialists, and drug court practitioners on various topics effecting behavior change such as SBIRT, Substance Abuse, Cultural Proficiency, Hepatitis C, Trauma Informed Care, and Developmental Issues with Adolescents.

Clyde Frederick
Program & Technology
Administrator
Clyde joined the NDRI-USA Training Institute in 2009, after 14 years with
NDRI’s AIDS Outreach and Prevention program. With his strong skills in
computer technology and a keen insight into the administrative fabric of a
non-profit organization, Clyde ensures that all aspects of NDRI-USA run
smoothly and efficiently.
As the technology specialist, Clyde develops and maintains databases that support both programming and fiscal oversight, conducts bid analysis with vendors to reduce spending and keep costs in line with departmental objectives, facilitates the technological execution of webinar-based presentations, coordinates marketing and social media development, integrates state-of-the-art technological innovations into the workflow to enhance operations, and assists the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director with the proper assignment and monitoring of cost allocations according to and within budgetary line items.
